Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The substance had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered numerous other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state initial examinations show the liquid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; investigators are not yet informed of any harm in relation with the event," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the community for information.
A senior political figure commented the vandalism made him without words and required to be solved quickly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
